Redefining the power of touch

by Joba Botana

The adage “change is the only permanent thing in the world,” perhaps, holds true and is more evident in the world of digital technology than in any other industry. It seems that every month or so, digital device manufacturers come up with new products–each more innovative than the previous ones. Of course, the credit always goes to the company that introduces it to the market.

In partnership with Microsoft, Acer, a company that has dedicated itself to delivering innovative and user-friendly products recently launched two products from its Iconia line–theAcer Iconia Tab W500, the first Windows-7 powered PC tab, as well its newest dual touch-screeen PC, the Acer Iconia-484G64ns.

“At first, we were confused as to what category Acer Iconia Tab W500 best fits because apparently, it belongs somewhere in the middle of tablet and notebook categories. But Acer is known for delivering ‘the first of its kind’ products like the Iconia-484G64ns,which has two touch screen display and Iconia Tab W500, which is actually a tablet PC packed with a lot of features and capabilities, “ shares Manuel Wong, general manager of Acer Philippines during a recent media gathering at Bocarinos restaurant at the New World Hotel.

The Acer Iconia Tab W500 features a hybrid design, which offers the perfect HD multi-touch slate portability, and productivity of a standard notebook via a docktable keyboard. It is a handy multi-touch slate that weighd about 1kg light, with a 10.1 inch HD LED-backlit LCD display, which makes it easy to fit into any backpack. It also features the multi-task Acer Ring control interface, a fast and intuitive entry point for launching Acer’s touch applications and built-in utilities and tools.

The Acer Iconia – 484G64ns, on the other hand, is equipped with a dual multi-touch display, which is made from the ultra-thin, extremely durable and scratch-resistant Cornong Gorilla Glass and has accurate multi-point touch detection and palm-contact rejection for optimized on-screen input. It is also equipped with the Acer Ring Control Interface, and comes with the Gesture Editor to let users customize touch gestures to launch specific applications and other actions.

Powering these devices is Microsoft’s Windows 7, which is currently the fastest-selling and most rapidly deployed operating system in history, with 200 million licenses sold so far. Windows 7 provides a streamlined interface that is free from desktop clutter and helps users find what they need in no time. It simplifies everyday tasks with enhanced features and shortcuts, making everyday them easier to accomplish.

Microsoft’s flagship operating system works the way users want it–faster startup, resuming and shut down time. It is also equipped with enhanced power management, advanced backup capabilities and the free Microsoft Security Essentials download to help protect users against viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

“It is our pleasure to be partnering with Microsoft in providing users with the ultimate computing experience with out new Iconia products running on Windows 7,” says Wong. “With Windows 7 on Acer devices, users are given more control over how they want to work and the assurance that the data they consume is backed up by a reliable operating system.”

Gracing the Iconia line launch was actor/model Derek Ramsay, Acer’s brand ambassador.

“What I like about the Iconia tab is that I can multi-task, making my day more productive. I can skype, play games, watch movies and check my emails in between tapings without experiencing problems in the internet connection. It is also user-friendly and very handy so I think this is a must-have specially for the tech-savvies,” shares Ramsay.

TheAcer Iconia Tab W500, is priced at below P30,000 while the Acer Iconia-484G64ns is at P70,900. Both products will be available in the local market soon.
